Summary
If you go to update Google Chrome (click on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner of the window and select "Help" and then select "About Google Chrome") and you click on the "Relaunch" button to complete the update, but the message stating that you're nearly up-to-date and need to relaunch keeps coming up repeatedly, the update is stuck in a loop. These instructions should quickly resolve the problem.
Body
Resolve by doing the following:
- Make sure Google Chrome application is closed.
- Open File Explorer > This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files > Google > Chrome > Application
If you see two Chrome files (one labeled "chrome" and one labeled "new_chrome") continue to the next step.
- Delete chrome.exe file
- Delete the folder with the older version of Chrome (for example, one folder might be named something similar to "120.0.6099.111" and one might be named similar to "120.0.6099.130... delete the one with the lower number).
- Rename the file new_chrome.exe -- Delete the "new_" so that it is now labeled "chrome.exe"
- Open the Google Chrome application
- Go to Help > About and it should now be showing as up-to-date
- If this doesn't resolve the problem, uninstall/remove the Google Chrome application from System Settings/Apps & Features and download the Chrome application from the Google website and reinstall it.
