Policy on Support for Retired and Former Employee Equipment

Purpose

This policy defines the scope of IT support services provided to retired and former employees of the University of Lynchburg.

Policy Statement

The University of Lynchburg IT Department provides technology support and services only for current faculty, staff, and students. IT staff do not service, troubleshoot, or repair personal devices or equipment belonging to retired or former employees.

Once an employee retires or leaves the University, their University-owned devices are returned to IT for reassignment or decommissioning. Any personally owned devices remain the responsibility of the individual and are not eligible for IT support.

Permitted Assistance for Retired Employees

Retired employees may receive limited IT assistance solely for verifying access to University systems, including:

  • Resetting email account credentials.

  • Resetting network account credentials.

Scope

  • Excluded Services: Hardware repairs, software installation, virus removal, data recovery, and troubleshooting of personal computers, tablets, or mobile devices.
